Is shipping really free? Does that include amps?

Yes. We are offering free shipping within the contiguous / continental United States on all products. Yes, that’s a good deal, especially on amps. We figure people will like that.

I just ordered a DIXON amp, when can I expect it to ship?

Because we maintain inventory most orders ship same-day. We prefer UPS ground for domestic shipping which is generally 5 business days. If you submit your order after 12pm Pacific Time it will almost always ship the following business day. You can read more about shipping here. Please bear in mind that we don’t control the weather, Fedex, UPS, USPS, or your sketchy delivery guy. Stuff happens, but we’ll be there for you. We’re good like that.

Are DIXON amps point-to-point, turret-board, tag-board, or PCB?

DIXON amps are hand-wired, point-to-point using tag strips. No part of the wiring or assembly is outsourced. We do it all right here at DIXON in Northern California. No robots. Just humans, in America, who come from all over the world and are lovely.

Do you offer DIXON amps with power supplies for other countries?

Yes, if you are purchasing from within, and shipping to, the continental United States. This assumes you are perhaps a famous rockstar going on tour. Congratulations.  Just let us know the desired region and mains voltage when you checkout (use the note field). We’ll probably want to confirm by phone to be sure you’re getting the right voltage for the intended region. 

Where are DIXON amps manufactured?

All DIXON amplifiers are 100% designed, manufactured and assembled in the USA. There are some materials we can’t get good source traces (like steel) but 98% of the dollars it takes for us to build a DIXON go to US-based and US-owned companies, almost all of which are privately owned family businesses. We build everything by hand and have managed to remain robot-free so far. And since you didn’t ask, we do not use A.I. in any manner whatsoever at DIXON. Not even a little bit. 

If I have a problem with my DIXON amp, what should I do?

Email us at bench@dixonamplifier.com and we’ll take it from there. Most issues can be fixed by talking it through and we want our customers to feel empowered to know what’s going on. If we can’t resolve it together by phone, we’ll arrange for shipping back to DIXON HQ where we can assess what is needed. See our warranty page to learn about the DIXON warranty for amps.

Will my DIXON amp sound better or worse if I use a variac or Brown-box to lower the voltage?

We don’t advocate using a Variac if you are not an experienced electrical technician or amp tech. There’s just too much risk that you spin that dial the wrong way and you really could smoke your beautiful amp. The change you’re referencing is usually less than 10 volts. The Brown Box is a great device for this application (we have one). We find they are best when you really want to use an actual vintage amp (meaning made before the mid-70s-ish) that were intended for use with lower mains voltage. DIXON amps are designed and tested at the voltage of the country for which they are sold. So in the USA, DIXON amps are designed to sound “right” at 120VAC with a +/- 2 volt variance. In our experience, they don’t always sound better—just different, and sometimes worse if you mess with the voltage too much. Stick with 120 my friend. It’ll work out.

Do I need to bias my DIXON amp when I change the tubes?

Nope, you can swap the bottles and hit it. All DIXON amps are cathode-biased so there is no bias adjustment when replacing any of the tubes.

Do you sell replacement DIXON tubes?
